The zolmitriptan is a serotonin (5-HT1) agonist used for the treatment of migraine with or without aura. In the present research work, zolmitriptan buccal patches were prepared using different mucoadhesive polymers like sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, hydroxyl ethyl cellulose, hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose, chitosan and poly vinyl pyrrolidone by solvent casting technique. The prepared patches were evaluated based on their physical characteristics like, weight uniformity, patch thickness, percentage swelling, surface pH, their mechanical properties like in-vitro residence time, tensile strength and their evaluation like drug content uniformity in-vitro drug release study and FTIR studies. All the prepared patches are weighed in between 20.66 to 29.33 mg. The thickness of the patches was in the range of 0.220 to 0.306 mm. The folding endurance was in the range of 265 to 298.The swelling index in the range of 29.93 to 44.26 %. It was concluded that all formulations drug released by non-Fickian diffusion mechanism.
