Several new 4 Methyl 2-(5-substituted phenyl-1H-tetrazol-1-yl) pyridines has been synthesized by reaction of 2- amino pyridine derivative with various aromatic acid chlorides and sodium azide. The chemical structure of the synthesized compounds was confirmed by means of IR, 1H and 13C NMR and Mass spectral analysis. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their antitubercular activity by Microplate Alamar Blue assay (MABA) method. All the synthesized compounds have exhibited significant activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv. The activities expressed as the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) fall into the range of 3.125-25 µg/ml.
Keywords: pyridine, tetrazole, antitubercular, Sodium azide
